New: Enhanced AssetState dimension for AWS Outposts capacity metrics on Amazon CloudWatch

Today, we are releasing an expanded format of our Amazon CloudWatch dimensions for AWS Outposts capacity metrics. The existing CloudWatch metrics, AvailableInstanceType_Count, UsedInstanceType_Count, InstanceTypeCapacityAvailability, and InstanceTypeCapacityUtilization for Outposts, can now be grouped using the new AssetState dimension with values: Active, Isolated, or Retiring. In this post, we describe what’s changing and how you can use […]

Monolithic Bottleneck: Why The Future of Linux Stability Lives in Userspace

It's no question that Linux is an absolute feat of engineering. It runs hardware all around the globe. Linux is 30 years old and since its creation has dominated the Unix scene. Which is why it fascinates me so much as a developer. For the past few weeks I've been working on a Linux from scratch project and have very quickly gained some strong opinions on the future of the Linux ecosystem. First off, Linux utilizes a quick release schedule which makes it hard to hold on to a stable ABI for drive

The Hidden Cost of AI Agents: Tokens, Tools, Retries, and Latency

AI agents look simple at first. You take a model, add a prompt, maybe connect a tool, and it works. It feels like you are just making one API call and getting an answer. That illusion disappears the moment the agent starts doing real work. In production, an agent is not one call. It is a loop. It may call the model multiple times, retrieve memory, execute tools, retry on failure, and refine its own output. That is where cost shows up. Not just in tokens, but in latency, complexity, and system lo

Your AI Coding Assistant Isn't Reading Your Code, It's Mailing It Home

Hook An AI coding CLI that uploads your entire Git history — commit logs, secrets, and all — to a vendor-controlled bucket, and does it through a channel that your privacy opt-out doesn't even touch. That's not a bug bounty footnote. That's the exact threat model everyone waved off as "theoretical" a year ago, now confirmed with a canary file. This isn't new territory conceptually — "AI tool has overly broad file access" has been a known risk since the first VS Code extension asked for workspa

Apple’s reportedly raising the price for AppleCare Plus on Macs and iPads

An AppleCare Plus subscription for a Mac or iPad will cost more soon, with prices going up by $0.50 per month or $5 per year for new sign-ups while remaining the same for existing subscribers, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Gurman says that under the new AppleCare Plus pricing, "a plan for a new 13-inch MacBook Air increased to $7.99 from $7.49, or to $79.99 from $74.99 annually," following a move last year that similarly raised the plan's price on iPhones. We haven't seen the new pricing
